Syllabus

We teach Cechetti technique in all ballet classes.  Our tap is primarily classical, or "Broadway Tap", although we experiment with new styles, including rhythm tap.  Our jazz curriculum is based on the classical styles such as Luigi and Giordano.  We do not teach dance line or hip hop in our jazz classes.  In modern, we try to expose our students to various styles such as Limon, Horton and improvisation.

All classes have a syllabus and curriculum in place to allow for continuity in training, and consistency among our teachers.

Class Size
In most cases, classes are limited to 15 students.  For Junior Division classes, assistant teachers are also part of your child's teaching staff.  Depending on age, and the availability of assistant teachers, some classes may grow to, but will not exceed, twenty students.

Class Structure

Our primary focus throughout Sept.- Dec. is teaching technique.  This includes barre work and other exercises that build strength and flexibility, and learning the proper way to execute movement to minimize the risk of injury.  During these months students also learn movement combinations that put together the steps and concepts learned in class.  All of this adequately prepares them for the second half of our dance year when we continue to improve upon technique and begin to focus on learning dances for our June production.

Class Placement

Music & Movement, Pre Ballet, and Tap/Ballet K:
Students are placed according to age and must be of that age by September 4, 2007.

All Other Classes:  Students are placed and advanced based on ability and experience.  When each child is evaluated for placement please keep in mind that several factors are taken into consideration.  Technical proficiency, rate of development, understanding and achievement of concepts laid out in the curriculum and maturity all play a role.  Each dancer's individual interest is at the heart of every decision.  Whereas we never want to have a dancer bored in class, we also do not want a class to be too overwhelming.  We strive to find a level suitable for each student.

Senior Division Ballet Requirement:

Ballet is the foundation of all other dance forms.  Ballet teaches students the technique, strength, and body awareness needed to learn & excel in all other forms of dance.  For These reasons, we require all Senior Division students be enrolled in a ballet class when taking any other technique class.
