Dress Rehearsal, Friday - June 6,
2008
Performance, Saturday - June 7, 2008
Performance, Sunday - June 8, 2008, 3:00pm
Located @ Richfield Senior High School – 7001 Harriet Avenue
South
All-school (Jr and Sr Divisions) and
both companies
Each year, there is a performance involving the entire school.
Since dance is a performing art we strongly encourage, yet do
not require, our students to participate in this special show.
All dancers performing must be registered students of DDTS.
In keeping with our dedication to dance as an art
form, our yearly performances include the staging of two ballets.
Our repertoire includes story ballets such as “Cinderella,” “The Seal Maiden,” “Carnival of the Animals,” and “Snow White,” as well as the abstract ballets of “Les Sylphides,” “Nocturne,” “The Seasons,” “Reflections,” and “Brahms Dances.” Students
in both divisions have audition opportunities for title roles,
and each ballet class plays a supporting role in the ballet.
This gives the students the chance to be a part of something larger,
it adds continuity to the performance, and allows parents and
students to see the progression of our program.

Ticket
Prices
The tuition prices you pay during the dance year
go towards paying rent on our building, paying faculty, and other
general overhead expenses like utilities and maintenance. We have
to charge admission to performances as the cost of producing a
show runs upwards of $12,000 for just one weekend.
Expenses to the school include theater rental, equipment rental,
program printing costs, contract laborers such as sound and light
operators and custodians, staff wages, advertising, and music
licensing fees all play a role in determining admission prices.
This year, ticket prices will run about $12 per
person, which is pretty standard for most dance schools in the
Twin Cities.
Costumes
The June performances are costumed. The costumes
we choose are tasteful, relevant to the performance, age appropriate
and affordable. It takes several months for costume companies
to fulfill our orders, therefore, we must order early (usually
over winter break). If you are performing, a $55 NON-REFUNDABLE
costume payment is due per child, for every class they are in,
by November 17, 2007. It is also recommended that if you
must move to a different class day and time, you do so prior to
this time to ensure that your dancer receives the appropriate
costume.
Practice CDs are available upon request.
All students are strongly encouraged to place their orders early.
Good times to purchase practice CDs are in early November
for the Junior Division's December performance, and in the early
spring for the June performances.
CDs - $5.00 please allow at least
2 weeks to fill order

Picture
Day 2008
Pictures Will Be Taken
On: May 17, 2008 & May 18, 2008
Important facts to remember:
Pictures will be taken HERE at the dance school.
This is an all school event – ALL students
are invited to participate – yes - dancers not performing
are included.
If your dancer is not performing please have them wear what
they wear to class.
Pictures will be handed out at Dress Rehearsal
6/6/08 at Richfield High School.
Classes are not held on Picture Day.
Picture order forms will be put in with your
dancer’s costume – please bring this form with you
to your dancer’s scheduled time.
Your dancer’s hair should be done before
arriving at the school. If you want your dancer to wear make-up
in the pictures it should be applied lightly.
As this is the first dance experience for many of you and your children, we wanted to share some frequently asked questions (and answers) regarding our end of year performances.
Is it mandatory that my child participate in the June performance?
All dancers at Deuxmensions are strongly encouraged, but not required, to participate in this special event. It gives them an opportunity to share with family and friends what they have learned throughout the year. It is also an exciting time for many of them to get their costume and be able to perform on a stage. If you and your dancer choose not to participate, they will still continue to participate fully in class and learn the dance the class will be performing on stage.
What are the financial considerations of being involved in the performance?
All dancers are required to purchase a costume for the June performance. We require a $55 non-refundable payment and do our best to choose costumes in this price range. In addition to the costume, we do charge admission to all performances. This year, ticket prices will run about $12 per person, which is pretty standard for most dance schools in the Twin Cities. Some additional, but not required, costs of the performance include performance T-shirts and DVDs of the show.
Why do you charge for the performances when I already pay tuition all year long?
The tuition prices you pay during the dance year go towards paying rent on our building, paying faculty, and other general overhead expenses like utilities and maintenance. We have to charge admission to performances as the cost of producing a show runs upwards of $12,000 for just one weekend. Expenses to the school include theater rental, equipment rental, program printing costs, contract laborers such as sound and light operators and custodians, staff wages, advertising, and music licensing fees all play a role in determining admission prices.
Can we videotape the performances?
Videotaping is allowed at the dress rehearsals ONLY, as tickets are not sold for this event. For any performance that sells tickets, we are required by federal law to pay a copyright fee to use the music in the performance, and purchase rights to have the shows professionally videotaped. We are the only ones with the legal rights to do this during a performance. If for some reason we were ever caught allowing other people to videotape, we, as well as the individual, could be charged with copyright violation. This is a standard procedure that all dance schools should (legally) follow, which is the reason we have this policy in place.
Why is my dancer not allowed in the audience after she is finished? I’d really like her to be able to see the older dancers.
Audience space is limited to paying members. However, after each class has finished performing, they will be escorted by their backstage helpers to a special reserved section in the balcony where they can watch other parts of the show. Their helpers will then take them back to the stage area as it gets close to the time for their finale. This is usually a pretty favorable option with the kids, and we feel it’s important for them to be able to see what they can aspire to.
I’d like to volunteer to help at the shows, but will I still be able to see my child perform?
Absolutely! There are opportunities for Moms, Grandmas and Aunts to help backstage. They supervise the class, help with costume changes, and escort dancers to and from the stage for their performances. While the dancers are performing, the backstage helpers get the best (and cheapest!) seat in the house. They get to watch from the wings right off the stage. While Dads cannot help backstage due to the fact that girls are changing costumes, they can volunteer in other ways and still see the show for free. We are always in need of ushers for the shows. Ushers take tickets and pass out programs at the door, but they do get to see the show for free. Occasionally, we also need props people to move scenery on and off stage. This would be another opportunity for Dad (or Mom) to be able to see the show for free.
We hope these FAQ’s help shed some light on what might otherwise be a gray area. Our goal is to keep you as informed and on top of things as possible. If you have any other questions please feel free to speak to one of us.
